The climb
A climb is one run of prompts. A prompt is the question shown on the card. The board is the set of accepted answers for that prompt, grouped by rank. An answer is accepted only when it matches a board entry or one of its listed aliases.
Classic and Daily climbs contain seven prompts. An Endless run continues until the balloons are gone.
Scoring
A tier is a band of the board with a fixed point value. Lift is the altitude gained from an answer: ten metres per point. Altitude is the running total in metres. A perfect climb is seven 100-point answers, or 700 points and 7,000 metres.
- Sky High: 100 points, the top answer.
- Jet Stream: 64 points, answers 2 to 4.
- Cloud Nine: 32 points, answers 5 to 9.
- Kite: 16 points, answer 10.
- Treetop: 8 points, answer 11.
- Grounded: 4 points, answer 12.
Modes
Classic is an unlimited seven-prompt climb. Daily is one date-based climb per browser per UTC date. Endless is a survival run with three balloons and no seven-prompt ceiling.
A balloon is an Endless life. A pass or timeout removes one; a 100-point answer restores one, up to three.
Multiplayer
A room is a shared climb identified by a six-digit code. The host creates it and starts each climb. A player number is the generated label such as player001; it is assigned by the server and cannot be edited. The leaderboard lists completed room climbs by player number and score.
Saves and data
A browser save is the progress stored in this browser's local storage: best scores, recently seen prompts, the current Daily attempt and the sound preference. Export creates a JSON copy of that save. Import restores one. Neither action creates an account or syncs between devices.
More terms
The prompt card is the panel that shows the question and category. The feedback screen appears after each answer and pauses the climb. The results screen lists every prompt and opens the full board.
In multiplayer, the lobby lists public rooms, a room code is the six-digit identifier, and an alias is an alternative spelling or regional word that the matcher accepts for a board answer. Normalisation is the process that ignores case, accents, punctuation and a trailing s before comparing text.
